new to carver forum

Postby millmax » March 10th, 2014, 9:07 pm

Hi..last year I purchased a 2005 carver 36 motor yacht....we are from Ontario and do most of our boating in the Great lakes...this is my first Motor yacht and we just love it....I like to do all my own maintenance but I find the engine compartment very tight and very hard to access some items....for example, how do you get at the transmission to change fluids and filter...it has 8.1 crusaders with the hurth transmissions.I am hoping to get some info or tricks on this...Thanks...Looking forward to being a part of this forum.

In the step well leading to the aft cabin, there is a door on either side. This door is to access the transmissions. If you need more access, you can pull the step module out and get even better access.

Depending on what trannys you have, they may not have filters. Easiest way to change fluids is a vacuum pump style changer that draws the old oil back up through the filler tube. I bought mine at Canadian Tire.
