Carver 360 Sport Sedan fuel consumption?

Postby John Easley » June 7th, 2016, 6:53 pm

We'll be looking at a 2005 360 Sport Sedan this Saturday. It has 327 hours on the Volvo 8.1s. This boat weighs in at roughly 22,000 lbs. Does anyone have this model with the big block engines? If so, what kind of fuel consumption could be expected at, say, WOT, cruise speed, and toodling along (technical navigation term) at 10mph? I think I read somewhere that max RPM is 5000 rpm for that engine and cruise speed is around 22 mph at 3500 rpm. No idea what range the rpms would be for 10ish mph. Results vary for each, of course, but we're trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks.

Glad I could help.

My previous boat - Silverton 42C - had the 8.1's and they were fantastic. Other than basic maitenance, I didn't spend a dollar in 700hrs. Tons of power, and surprisingly good fuel economy. I ran usually around the 3000rpm range which kept her about 15kts on plane.

Good luck,

What Lyndon said. That's pretty accurate. That said, your fuel is dirt cheap in Florida. Why worry about it?

Just trying to get a frame of reference.

Install FloScan monitors. They'll keep you informed on exactly what you're consuming and help determine the most economical cruising speed etc. If you gave NMEA 2000 network on board, they have an interface and software that provides really good data at a glance that can be stored for future reference.

Frame of reference.....

Gas here is $1.34/Litre. There are 3.79 Litres to a US Gallon - so, a US gallon of gas up here costs $5.07CAD. That works out to $3.99 US dollars at todays currency exchange.

Pricey! I paid $2.26 US the other day when I filled up. But we've had it as high as $4.00/gal here. Ugh. Oil companies.

I am in Michigan. The street price of gas in January was $1.19 now it is up to $2.79 and rising. At my marina at the moment it is $3.49 but that will go up since the street price is rising.
