Carver Mariner prop rotation

Postby amanphoto » September 18th, 2016, 8:59 pm

Which direction does Carver Mariner props rotation turn driving forward? Port and Starboard.

Also what size is the prop shaft.

Looking at the props from behind the boat, port turns left and starb turns right. This is standard for twin engine recreational applications. Single engine is standard prop rotation which is right hand. Some twin engine racing apps turn inward; port is RH and starb is LH for stern lift, Fred can probably elaborate on that.

Prop rotation in some applications is not the same as engine rotation. Older boats had a counter rotating engine to turn a single screw or starb side to the right. Engines rotated the same way you wanted the prop to rotate in forward up until about 30-40 years ago. Since then, engines rotate LH which is standard rotation and the output direction to the prop is changed at the transmission thus eliminating the need for building counter rotating engines.

Our 1987 Mariner has counter rotating engines.
350hp crusaders.
22 x 22 x1 3/8. 4 blade.

Some offshore boats turn them in instead of out. Mine are turning in, middle engine turn with the port rotation.

Allegedly affects bow lift or stern lift on high horsepower, high speed boats.
Thanks
