Anchor for 405 Carver

Postby Kendaukcat » June 18th, 2018, 9:45 am

Good Morning, Carver Crew.

I just recently purchased a 405 Aft Cabin (LOVE HER!!). The surveyor mentioned that the anchor on the boat would not hold him in place. The boat came from a lake, and I don't think they every really put stress on the anchor.

I plan to take the boat to the Keys, so obviously I am in need of a serious upgrade. This is one are I do not want to cut corners. I am looking at this 65 pound Mantus:

Does anyone have any thoughts\recommendations?

Thank you in Advance,

Ken

Whatever you decide on, make sure your ground tackle and windlass can handle it.....check out what people use in the keys for tackle and you won't go far wrong......good luck with it...
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

Hi there,
This season I upgraded my anchor to a 45 lb Mantus. I have used it a number of times and am very happy with both the setting and holding of the anchor.
I also installed a Mantus swivel with the anchor. (nice heavy construction)
Along with the anchor I purchased their anchormate which keeps the new anchor nice and snug on the bow.
Last year I purchased my first Mantus product, the 'chain hook' for use with my bridal. The hook is an excellent and unique design. In fact when I weighed anchor this morning I had that very thought!
Wow... looking at what I just wrote I guess I qualify as Mantus enthusiast! I like their designs and the customer service is very impressive.
Best of luck with your search and the new boat.

Thank you for the replies. I would really like to have something in place before the trip down to the Keys.

Will definitely contact the Windlass manufacturer. I had that on my checklist, but had completely forgotten about it. Your mind really starts to swirl with a new boat!

I should probably just go with Mantus and call it a day. Everyone has a different opinion that I have talked to...they are probably all correct opinions to some degree.

Thanks again,

Ken

We anchor alot and found the Rocna anchors extremely good. You would need, I guess, the Rocna 20.

Well, I have circled back to Rocna.

I saw a few posts about Mantus on the other forums that freaked me out. I doubt you can go wrong with either, but I have not heard anything but glowing recommendations about the Vulcan.
