I have my heart set on a 12” Garmin however the only deals at the show were on 9”. I could have bought 3-9” units for the price of a 12” which crossed my mind but I still think I’d be disappointed having to squint at a 9” display.

I have a 9" Garmin unit and I have no issues seeing what I need to see on the screen. That said a 12" unit would be better. One of the things I really like about the newer units is the amount of data that is available on the screen. Much more than was available on older units. Eventually the 12" unit will go on sale.

I agree with Admiral Grew about the amount of info that you can put on the screen. I have my 12" for one season and have used it strictly for chart plotting. I like the 'easy viewing' of the big screen. I was thinking about flow meters, which can also display, however I already have a pretty good idea of burn/rpm. Once known, why bother seeing it each time.
The feature that would be of most interest to me is the radar function. Currently I have a Furano unit with a color screen and it works quite well. The thought of 'overlaying' the radar screen on the route is very enticing, however, for the number of times I truly 'require' radar, I can probably wait for the lotto win. Other priorities will prevail in the short term.
