I would strongly recommend converting to closed cooling as soon as possible. Get a kit that includes converting the exhaust manifolds as well. You either pay for the kits now or pay way more for the consequences later IMO.

Thanks for the advice Viper, Hmm, could you point me to where you can purchase hardware to close the exhaust manifolds, I would imagine it closes the engine oil cooler, trans cooler and fuel pump cooling also?? I'd like to see the plumbing schematic for that kit.

BTW: I have purchased original Volvo parts to convert both engines to closed systems.

The hardware you mentioned isn't part of a closed cooling system, they are in the raw water side. Did the parts you bought include what's needed to close the exhaust manifolds?

I purchased two 100% compleat stock Volvo Penta systems, every component down to the hose's and clamps. I'll find out if the exhaust manifolds are in the closed loop when I do the installation and have a full understand of the plumbing.

Just curious here.....were there any instructions in the kit as to what thermostat temp to run in the system considering you have an ECU controlling the engines and are now in salt ?
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

I did not buy a Kit, purchased the required part numbers from the Volvo Penta engine parts list specific to my engines. The thermostats were part of the order, don't recall what temp, but I do know they are higher temps than the open system if I recall correctly.

BTW, Exhaust from the factory runs RAW water for closed and open systems on Volvo 8.1 I/O Gas engines (2002 model years). The ONLY part that is closed is the engine block.
