Steering Wheel Replacement

Postby denpooch » May 13th, 2020, 9:23 pm

Hey everyone. Its time to replace the steering wheel which as certainly seen better days.
Does anyone have any 'tips or tricks' for getting off the wheel that's been in place for 15 years?
Thanks and stay safe.

Sometimes they come off rather easily otherwise a few good taps with a hammer on the shaft end while pulling will probably do the trick and for the really stubborn ones a puller and hammer combo. I have done 4 or 5 of these over the years and never needed the puller so far. My experience has been in fresh water applications only or non corrosive environments. I would assume they would get almost welded on in year round salt water applications.

Hans' tip on a smack to the shaft 'did the trick'!
Thar she blows!

A new fancy wheel does make for a nice touch. One of the less expensive boat upgrades. Looks great.
