Countertops Remodel best Materials ?

Postby lombardi22 » June 16th, 2020, 7:47 pm

Hi

I am new to the forum and need some input. We just bought our friends 1988 Carver Mariner . Its is great shape but I am redoing interior . I am thinking of using Silestone ( quartz /1.2cm on the countertops ) . Curious if anyone has used this or quartz in a their boat If so how is it working ? If not what materials would you recommend? Grateful for any and all help!

Welcome aboard.

I've seen both natural and composite tops on many boats. Every top that I've seen cracked has been natural stone. I suspect installation practices may have something to do with it but boats also flex a bit under certain conditions and may contribute to the issue. Weight is also a concern. Try to keep the weight down as much as possible, too much additional weight can cause other issues such as listing to one side, affect performance and safety.

Thank you for responding and the input, very helpful! I was concerned about possible cracking . The boat is on a calm lake so not sure if that helps. I was looking at the 1.2 cm

Welcome to the forum.....our boat has some composite type of counter top.....Have a look thru the new boat brochures on the carver yachts site, I can't really say but there may be some materials listed in the explanations....

The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.
