2022 Haul Out

Postby Midnightsun » September 28th, 2022, 4:36 pm

Had the boat hauled out this morning. Got everything out and ready for her winter nap. Just need to go back and winterize but I do have everything on board to do so. Never hauled this early, usually mid October for me then again September really sucked this year. Good news is I think I am done modifying Midnight Sun. No projects on the list for this winter.

Apart from replacing the spotlight and installing that flashing anchor light I mentioned, not much else comes to mind. Boat has never been in such perfect shape from bow to stern. Have my fenders, fender covers, dock lines, power cords and water lines in the garage waiting to be cleaned and stored. Probably get around to that today.

That building looks pretty cool (and huge)! What is the roof made of? Fiberglass panels or some type of shrink plastic?

These structures are rather common. Called fabric storage buildings. This is a random link I found but there are hundreds of choices out there. Like the fact that it is always dry inside, out of the elements and shrink wrap is not required.

Hey there Hans,
You mentioned a 'flashing' anchor light. I did not realize those existed and just replaced mine with an LED. I do have a general question for you and the crew.
Although I certainly use the anchor light, I am at times concerned about 'advertising' my position for any scoundrels who may be up to 'no good'. Many times I am 'solo' anchoring with no other boats out there. Seems like a flashing light would draw even more attention.
Certainly I am boating and anchoring in very safe areas but at times I do have these thoughts. I was even thinking about loading a firearm aboard.
Anyone in the same 'boat'?

The only reason I am "inventing" a flashing anchor light is for a major insect issue as the anchor light tends to draw them by the hoards. A simple timed light where it comes on for a second or 2 and the off for maybe 5 seconds in repetition, I am hoping this will keep the critters away while still being visible. These are not available commercially and are probably not even legal so to say.
