Stormy4 20 we are seriously considering a set of boarding stairs for our 506. We are live a boards and the climb up the rear stairs for a couple of 60+ year olds with a load of groceries is a little tough. First do you seriously think these stairs would be a help in this situation as I am sure you have used for awhile. and secondly how high does this particular set reach??

Greetings! Thanks for the reply. Full disclosure, my wife and I have never used the stairs. We purchased the boat from our now friend in August of 2016. The stairs came with the boat. The reason we are aren't using them is because we are docked on the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth, NH. We have a 10 foot tide and the current and wake in the river would probably rip the stairs from the side of the boat. They just aren't practical here.

I have seen several sets of these in action though, all in the Chesapeake. From what I've witnessed, they are a heck of a lot more stable and user-friendly than a set of plastic boarding stairs. They also seem much safer because of the railing. The stairs remain flat during tide cycles. I'm not sure what the tide height range is, but it seems like a 2 foot change could be handled.

I have the stairs in our storage unit. I'll take a drive by today and get a measurement for you.

If you do decide you want to take them, we would look forward to a drive maybe meeting you half way to get them to you. We could use a mini-vacation! -Eric Platt 603-988-1679 text friendly :approve:

I'm back! They measure 48-50" from dock height.

I would just mount the stair brackets down a few inches. Or if you want an even transition, mount the brackets on the hull so the distance from the deck to the top step is the same as the stair height so its even. The stairs will flatten out a bit but it may make the climb up the stairs easier becuae they won't be as steep. I would just confirm that it's ok to mount the brackets a little lower than the deck line.

Still dreaming about those stairs! We have had a lot of bigger priorities to spend on since getting our boat. But the stairs are on the list of needs. Timing, as always. But I will keep in touch if you haven't sold them.
