As a new boater, and any experienced boater, please make certain you have all the safety gear required on board before you leave the dock. Life jackets, throwable ring, fire extinguishers etc. Make certain all passengers know where the jackets are and what to do if a problem were to arise. We all want everyone to have a great time and recommend boating to others.

If you can connect with the closest US Sail & Power Squadron you might make some worthwhile connections...
Good education courses and a great way to network w/ other knowledgeable boaters.

As a member of the Power Squadron, I agree. Might I add to that, the Coast Guard Aux. they offer classes as well

One other thing to add. It's already been suggested you take a safe boating course. Among the many benefits of taking such a course is that upon completion many insurance companies give a discount for having completed such a course. 5% is common.

Do you boat on Turtle Creek Lake? Not a lot of "big water" around your area.

Tip 1. When docking always throw the center line first

jipatton - Just curious...how did it all go for you? It does take some time and a lot of practice, so don't get discouraged. The reason I ask is because we have a couple owners in our area that never pull out of the slip because they have not established enough confidence in themselves. Kind of sad, but a couple of us have made efforts to coach them up, so we don't feel bad. Hope you are enjoying the boat! Cooler

When I first bought my 3007 I was one of those who would not go out unless conditions were ideal. Especially low to no winds. My 3007 like many sedans is a sail. I finally decided that if I was going to use my boat I had to USE it. I started heading out in windy conditions. As time passed my handling skills have improved quite a bit. I now head out in conditions I used to stay dockside in.

The only way you can build your handling skills is to use the boat.

True Rick, same here! And a couple of shots for the nerves and all is well. I get harassed all the time that I pilot better after a few! LOL!!!!
