Beginning Of Season Near

Postby RGrew176 » February 3rd, 2020, 1:57 am

It's time, especially for us in the north country to think about the beginning of the season. So now we have a thread for that. Last year I predicted when I would launch. I initially, last year, hoped for an April 3rd launch. Didn't make it, but did launch May 3rd. Last year spring came late here.

This year no predictions as to my Carver launch date. I do know though when I will take possession of my new Yamaha PWC. I have scheduled my delivery date for May 15th. Hope to have a fun summer with my new toy.

Spring was very late last year and got in the way of waxing and general boat prep before splash. I am hoping that does not occur again this year as I am, as usual, tired of the winter. I normally splash on the first Saturday of May, so looks like the 2nd. So if we have a late spring, doesn't give me the temps I want to compound and wax. I normally don't put the Jet Boat in the water till the big tub is in. It is normally too cold to take that out until it gets warmer. Nothing like doing 55 mph in May, can't feel your face when you get back to the dock. :-)

Heres for an early spring. :beergood:

RGrew176, thanks for the new thread, the preceding one was getting depressing. :-D

This year I intend to complete the final projects on Midnight Sun before launch. Took 4 years however everything imaginable has been carefully repaired, upgraded or changed. 2 AC units to install and a full battery swap is what is left to do. Looking forward to an early May launch this season if Ma Nature agrees that is. Hopefully my mind won't wander and think of other things to add/improve. :help:

Thank you Rick for the fresh start. I simply could not figure out how to edit that old topic. Yep, my launch is usually early May. Just before the bay flies start their initial hatch. Hoping temps and winds are more comfortable this season. Marina services not available until May 15, so I have to rough it for a short time. Our January was the 4th warmest in history, so April should follow. ;-) Buffing will be done in storage when the building temp gets increased to 60F. Still hoping to find an energetic person who loves to spin a buffer at a reasonable $ rate. Trying to avoid the annual "sore shoulders" of aging body. I am pretty happy about how the hull looks after last season. No real oxidation, still some shine, after using Mequiar's #50 single step. Topside looks a little chalky though. Used a different product on topside that I thought would last longer. 91ish days till launch! 8-) er

Looking forward also, last year was all the carpets, Sunbrella and isinglass done. Now we picked up a Fusion radio and trying to hit the go button on a solar kit. And , I want to start building a Nmea 2000 back bone. Like having projects to look forward too!

89 days to go! Reaching another milestone tomorrow. Time of daylight stretches to the 10 hour mark. Gaining 2 to 3 minutes of daylight each day. By the EOM, we should be at 11 hours of daylight. Then the melting should get faster. Finally, I have a question I know is strange, but I'm strange. There are 2 small chrome hooks screwed into my cockpit transom. One on the door. and then 1 on the starboard side of the inner transom wall. They do not line up, so they can't be to clip the door open. They have a small metal spring tab to hold something inside the hook. What are these for? They look like they were installed at factory. 8-) er
