C37 reviews...diesel mpg?

Postby nole1989 » July 13th, 2016, 7:08 am

Hello, the C37 is on my short list of boats that we are looking at. I cannot find any test results for the volvo diesel engines. the merc gas only get under 1 mpg. Also, if you own a C37 would love to hear real life pros and cons! Thx

Welcome aboard.

Are you talking coupe or flybridge? One I read was a coupe with Volvo D4-300s topped out at 29 knots and sweet spot at 22 knots but no fuel consumption data. Try looking through here:

When you get into boats over 30', its not usually, miles per gallon, its gallons per mile at cruise speed.

All engines consume the same no matter how big or how small the boat they are installed on at any given rpm, more or less. That being said, a D4 300hp will consume about 12 gph/engine at 3200-3300 rpm which will be the normal operating rpm while up on plane. Just need to know at what speed this boat will run at that rpm to calculate mpg. We can assume you will be doing more than 24mph (24 gph total burn) so you will definitely be over 1 MPG, my guess will be closer to 1.5 mpg. At hull speed I will guess you will be running about 1250 rpm which will substantially reduce the burn to about 2 gph or less per engine, once again we need to know the speed at which the boat will be travelling but I can tell you will go quite the distance compared to on plane as this is where a diesel shines.

Hi Everyone,
Just picked up my "new to me" 2017 C37 in Michigan last month, Diesel, 100 hours, and did 1,000NM on the Volvo D4's (with reverse-drive shafts) all the way to NJ.
sweet spot Cruise speed at 80% power 3,000 RPMs, 23KTS, average 1.2MPG to 1.3MPG in calm seas
WOT 29.3KTS+, 3,650RPMs, 31GPH.
hope this helps,
Sad for Carver going out of business. absolutely love the boat.
