Side vent

I have a 96 Carver 355. What are the side vents on the hull for, and why are there Snap-on covers for them?

the vents are for ventilation of your engine room. If you have covers they were most likely made to keep out bugs, birds and or rodents. The covers MUST be removed before running your engines or generator.

Our snap on covers are screens and just what tom said they are for. Mink in our area have been known to grab dinner and dine in our boats and leave one bad smell. Some say they stink so bad a skunk would be better onboard.
