Santa Cruz: 1978 2866

Postby Jab » November 1st, 2013, 4:34 pm

I just purchased a '78 Santa Cruz 2866. She'll be indoors this winter, and I hope to complete as many projects as possible before launching on Moosehead Lake in Maine in May ( or whenever the ice is out!).

Many of the projects I'm planning are covered in other threads. I'm going to keep this thread active (if there's any interest) for some of these issues as they relate to this specific model/era.

Much of the equipment on the boat is original (for better or worse), and I have the original owner's manual, if it is helpful to anyone.

Mine is a single screw gas crusader with Walter v-drive.

I anticipate at least the following projects (in no particular order):
- awl grip cockpit and non-teak portions of transom
- clean, brighten, varnish teak (interior, exterior, swim platform)
- clean and repair salon sliders and windshield
- update interior upholstery
- replace bridge seats
- repair holes in bridge helm (from old electronics)
- change head from macerator/discharge to holding tank
- waterproof enclosures
- change the name (off with painted name, replace with decal/graphic)
- modify lower helm seat

I'd love to hear from anyone with any ideas, experience, or questions! You may notice a conspicuous absence of wiring or electronic projects. For the most part, I leave these to professionals!

I currently have a 1978 santa cruz. With 2 302 ford crusaders. I'd like to know if my props are correct. They are 14... 11. I think they should be 15.... 15... can anyone help ?
