Craig, most likely already has been checked, but the tilt / trim on the outdrives, along with the bellows and shift cable boots on the drives. Also noise from gimbal bearings, would mean they are on the way out. The brearings are realitivley cheap, but the labor is $$$.

When I was helping my buddy shop, I was surprised that vision aft was limited in close quarter maneuvering.
To me that's a show stopper.

Did the test run today.
I think it went well. Engines fired up promptly and ran smooth.
Both engines made it up to 4500 RPM's with no noise etc.
There are a few minor issues i discovered but I am sure the seller will have those fixed plus any other issues that come up in the final survey.

The owner was not there to do the run but the owner of the marina took us out along with his salesman.
At first the boat would not do much more than 13 knots but after he fiddled with the outdrive angle and the trim tabs he got it up to about 20 knots +. He admitted he was not too familiar with the controls and handling of this particular boat.
Does this sound like an appropriate speed for this boat?

The only other item that has me a bit concerned was the port engine temp did not read at all at low speeds but once we where up on plane it matched the starboard gauge. About 140. I hope its just a gauge issue.
Also noticed some oil leaks that appeared to be from the valve covers and/or fill cap area.
Oil was clean and at the full mark.

Craig - yes, that speed sounds about right at 3200 to 3400 RPM. WOT at 4500 is normal. The thermostat could have been stuck wide open for that port side engine, and then recovered when some throttle got pushed up. As long as it did not get hotter than the other engine, should be alright. Minor evidence of oil leaks is normal for engines 30 years old. Looks like it is coming together! 8-) er

Still waiting on the remainder of the survey. The weather here has been crappy which has apparently delayed him quite a but. :(

Says he will call me tomorrow and if all is good we will sign the paperwork the next day. :D

Thanks to all that took the time to help us out.

Just got the final report this morning.
Overall he says the boat is in above average condition for its vintage.

A few minor things need to be addressed but the seller said he will be attending to those issues.
