Decode HIN 355 Aft

Postby chpsk8 » May 6th, 2019, 1:11 pm

Hello
I was looking at my paperwork on my new to me '95 355 Aft Cabin and was wondering if anyone could help decode my HIN for me. I had similar info for my last boat, it was just interesting to know where it was built and when etc...

I've searched around and think I understand it, but would like another pair of eyes on it.

My HIN is CDRP0001F495

CDR - Carver Boats
PO - I'm assuming that's the model 355 Aft?
001 - Hull Number 1?
F - Started build June?
4 - Day?
95 - Model year 1995

Does that look close? Thanks in advance!

Yes sir. You got it. The # is also defined in your owners manual. The only change is the 4 defines the vessel was actually built in 94.

Well that's pretty neat. Looks like I have hull number 1. That would explain some of the discrepancies in drawings that Carver sent and what's actually in the boat!

Thanks for the confirmation and second set of eyes!

Couldn't the 4 possibly stand for April. The boat was built in April of 95. Just a thought. I will have to take another look at my hull number.

CDR....Maker
P0001....Maker serial number
F4.....June of 94 build
95......Model year
Thats what I came up with.

Looks like it may be an early hull, check with Carver......they did change/upgrade lots of things as the builds went along, I know ours has many differences from an earlier boat of the same model year...... :beergood:

I believe this is correct. 04 for April and 95 for year of manufacture. Mine ends in 0882 which is Aug 1982 for a model year 83 boat.

The HIN format has changed over the years....72-84 were roughly as you are saying ( they had some different versions in use at that time ) but change after 84 to 12 character ( what you see above ) then to 15 with the country at the front.

CDRP0009F798 is my HIN number.

I am the #9 355 for the 1998 model year.

The reason I started looking deeper at it was due to the "1" in the number and thinking that 4 was something to do with dates. Figured it was low and knowing that 95 was the first year for the molded steps made it more intriguing.
My last boat was a Sea Ray and the HIN was able to pin down the factory location along with the dates.
Kinda nerdy, but I'm ok with being like that. haha

Well, now you know your Carver was built in Pulaski, WI. Great little town, hard working people with true passion for boats. If you like the aroma of fiberglass, that factory is a fun place to visit. I notice your flag is Liechtenstein. Is that where you live? I was there a few years ago, and made sure to get my passport stamped at the place famous for ?? . 8-) er
