As others have alluded to, it's not about the owner, it's for your benefit for all the reasons mentioned above. Perhaps other than a timing issue for a quick sale, he'd only have a problem with a survey if he were trying to hide something IMO.

To me, the real deal-killer would be a soft transom. Most of the other stuff - like a soft deck - you can take care of if you are handy at all. Redoing a transom is 10x harder.

No you have to do a sounding and use a moisture meter.

HI guys,
So after being at mechanic, the water in engine is a blown head gasket. Mechanic says he can clean both heads, lap valves etc, do a few oil changes and should be fine. Intake, risers, manifolds he say look good. Outdrive needs bearing carrier assembly. Expensive part (450.00) but ok with because outdrive looks good.
THE BAD NEWS....
Was told stringers are soft under engine. Fiberglass guy wants 3000.00 to replace two stringers in bilge under engine. Do you guys know of a cheaper fix?
ALSO...
Mechanic noticed two cracks in interior transom assembly. 2800.00 for that. He feels transom is not bad as far as softness.
What are your thoughts please[image][/image]

Have you already purchased this boat ?
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

The bad news, if that engine sat with water in it, its going to need a lot more than a valve job. When you add in the other repairs that you know of, your talking about putting 8k into a boat that's worth 5k on the top end in great condition. Not good math. If it came with the trailer, sell the trailer for 2k scrap the boat and start your search over.
