Here is a link to the '95 380 Santego. I am 99% sure it is exactly the same as your 96. Carver used the same construction techniques for several model years. https://carveryachts.blob.core.windows. ... ego-se.pdf
Will answer several of your questions like thru hulls, etc. 8-) er

Same here. Sounded like seller was trying to play games. Don’t know the full details. I’ll hopefully be able to get over to the boat Brady week and get the low down.

Yeah...I think it was the seller playing games. Didn't make sense to me especially with these super common engines. I don't know the details but I'll be going to the boat this next week and get more info. Thanks again for sharing.

Halfway through the manual, but it is very rudimentary. Is there anything that will show graphically where/how many through hulls and what types of sea cocks? Where everything is located on the boat (electrical panels, gray/black water tanks, etc.)? Or are there so many variants that you need to find them on your onw?

Forget the manual. Get a good flashlight and open every hatch there is, stick your head in and find/identify every thru hull, strainer, bilge pump, sump pump, etc. Follow hoses from end to end and figure out what each is used for. Carver is famous for placing bilge openings in hidden, out of the way places…look for them. Look inside cabinets, under stairs, under berths, etc.

Good advice. Consider it a 'treasure hunt'!

When I first got my boat, I did this. Even before I actually bought it, I thought I had gone through and found every hatch. I didn't have a surveyor go through the boat, so I thought I was being "extra-diligent". After I got the boat I went through again and found a couple more access places that I missed.

Then the next year I found a couple more.

And the next year I found another one.

I was still finding one or two several years later! Some might require a screw or two to be removed, but others are just well hidden.

(P.S. BTW, I don't recommend buying a boat without a survey usually)

That is great advice. Another reason to "explore" is you never know what a previous owner did, as a repair or customization. 8-) er
