Value of a Carver 41 CPMY

Postby ahl0527 » March 9th, 2024, 2:46 pm

I am planning on selling my 2008 41CPMY. I am going back to sailboats. I have enjoyed the boat, I purchased it in 2021 after my wife passed away. She wanted a Motor yacht as our next boat.
The brokers around here (Clearlake, TX) seem to be unable to come up with comps.
Can anybody give me an approximate value? It has the D6 Volvo 370, new Eisenglass, Bow and Stern thrusters replaced in 2022.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure what it may be worth but being a 2008 it is one of the last ones produced. Diesels are sought after and rather uncommon in that model. Overall condition and maintenance will be a factor in getting a better offer. If it's a fresh water boat then add quite a bit more. I'm thinking in the 250 range would be a good start assuming it is a fresh water boat in very good shape.
Cheers, Hans

Thanks for the input, Hans. The two brokers I talked with were giving comps on 2005 and 2006. Even got a comp from Indonesia. I also appreciate all the knowledge you have imparted to me as I follow your posts.

The going price is what anyone is willing to pay for it. The good news is new boats are so expensive not many want to dish out that kind of money which has helped the used market to bump up some.

We purchased Midnight when she was around 8 years old. I purchased from the original owner and saw his invoice which was way before covid as in 2007. A staggering $750,000 CAD although he did take every option Carver offered with the exception of macerators. I paid less than a third of this which was a decent deal at the time. The biggest help was the boat was located in my home province of Quebec therefor no sales tax at all on used boats and here, transfers and registrations are also free.

Point is, new boats are big money and the used market is ripe. Values vary tremendously depending quite a bit on location also. US, Canada, east coast, west coast. Good luck on your transaction.

Not sure where the market sits right now with inflation and high interest rates, must be more limited due to those.
Cheers, Hans

Prices on used vessels are still high at this time. A friend of ours is still trying to break into it and can't. Just like you said Hans, a lot of people drove the market up during Covid and the interest rates are still a factor to being able to purchase. Good luck with your sale!

Another option is to have the vessel surveyed. It will need to be done at some point anyway, so you can use the survey as a selling advantage. A good surveyor will provide you with a selling price range based on your market and current condition. When you get to the ready to close on a deal, just add the expense of the survey. Ask the surveyor to quote you a price to transfer the survey to a potential buyers bank/insurance company. Good luck. 8-) er

Great idea, Cooler. I'm going to haul it for a bottom job so that would be the time to do it.

If you do choose to have a survey done, schedule it as far in advance as you can. Surveyors at this time of year are pretty busy. Good luck! 8-) er
