Hatch lens replacement

Postby tonyiiiafl » December 24th, 2020, 5:55 pm

As winter looms on, I have removed the forward hatch on my 390CPMY to replace the “glass/polycarbonate “ panel. Getting the old one out was easy, a slice with a razor blade around the edge and out it came. I* have seen many ideas of refloating a piece in using butyl. I have been looking for a replacement piece, but Lexan is either clear or lightly smoked or just plain old black. Any ideas of a source? Carver referred me to Bomar, but they have no direct fit and advised to use Lexan. I also have used just plain old clear silicone to secure panels like this in before. Any ideas? Yes? no?.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Tony

Have you checked with Great Lakes Skipper? They may have the entire unit. My catches/latches were broken from the previous owner and wanted to buy new ones but lucked out by finding the entire unit a GLS for about the same money as a few closure mechanisms. I had a Sunbrella cover made up for it since the contour is plastic and the original had yellowed. Paid something like $225 for the whole shooting match.

I ordered a replacement hatch lens off eBay a few years ago. It came with the bedding material (butyl) and was ready to install. You had the option of clear or tinted. If I remember correct, it even came with instructions on how to install.
