Mercruiser 233 drain plugs on a 1976 2896

Postby Ctmangrum » February 19th, 2022, 8:16 am

New owner looking for ALL the drain plugs on this engine. Found the obvious plugs on the risers but don't see the others. I have the manuals for this model but still don't see them. Appreciate it.

Look around the motor mount on both sides of the block.

You think they are actual plugs or pepcocks?

They might have been changed out to petcocks but they most likely started out as plugs.

Petcocks are convenient until they loosen while enroute (because someone didn't wire them closed) or when they get plugged with debris and won't drain.

There typically would be 6 for the engine, one on each side of the block (as Viper noted, probably near the engine mounts), one on the bottom end of each exhaust manifold, and one on each of the risers.

You may also have a few more which would be on the oil cooler, trans cooler and the seawater pump.
