Head over filling bowl when water pump on - HELP

Postby gperkins007 » October 1st, 2022, 5:18 pm

Hi all,
Just bought a 1988 Carver 32 3227.
When I turn on the main water pump the toilet fills up and then overflows continuously.
Been reading this could be a stuck solonoid?
Some pictures if anyone can help me identify my model head and if that blue pump thing is in fact the solonoid.
It does tap off the main water line and goes to the top of the bowl.
Should that only enable water flow while the flush button is being pushed?
thank you!
Gary

I suspect the blue module is a pump just for the toilet.
I assume that when the pump is not running it should not be allowing water to come in from the the main fresh water line.
And in my case it is?

Yep, that blue thing is the coil for the valve, which is just below the blue thing. The bronze thing in the upper right is a backflow prevention valve.

You might just have some dirt in the solenoid valve. You might be able to disconnect it and hook the hoses up "backwards" for a minute to see if that would flush the debris out, or you can disassemble it and see if it's clean. With the water pressure off, when you flush you should hear a good "click" in that solenoid valve.

You might not be able to flush it backwards if that backflow prevention valve is still in place. You may have to remove that to do the backflush.

Also check for power at the valve when the switch is activated and if there is power, tap the valve with a screwdriver handle and see if loosens up......good luck.
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

ok. Should this turn on same time as the motor in toilet (that pulls everything down) when the 'push to flush' button is held in?

and so to be clear please, this is NOT a pump, just a solenoid switch and problem could be its stuck open?

Correct.

You could also put a manual valve in that line so you could shut the feed off if the solenoid valve ever leaks again, to prevent an overflow and give you time to work on the valve. If you installed it BEFORE the solenoid valve, then you could also leave the rest of the potable system running while you shut the valve off to work on the solenoid valve.

If flushing doesn’t cure the problem, you’ll have to dismantle and look for debris or a tear in the diaphragm.

Looks like you have a Raritan Crown head set up for fresh water flush but your plumbing setup is not factory.

thanks everyone for this help! It does have 12v going to it when flush pressed, so time to take it apart...more to follow.
