Vacuflush

Postby pepmyster » April 27th, 2024, 3:48 pm

So it has begun. Finally got the vacuflush system out of our Carver. Where is was placed was so bad that my wife was the one who could crawl in and retrieve it. For sure the 4 duck-bills, just wondering about the bellows. Thoughts?

Change it while its out. When they do crack you get black water leaking all over the place.

Just ordered all Dometic parts. Man, there are so many knock- offs out there. Amazing how all the parts are made in China. Even the Dometic parts are from there. Let's hope all are good. When I receive them, duck-bills, should I coated them in die-electric grease prior the installation?

Vaseline, silicone lubricant or dielectric will suffice. Do not tighten the nuts to much or the duckbill will deform and cause issues, just snug is all you need. ;-) You do know even the real stuff is MIC right? If it were made in North America they would cost $50 each. :-O

I was surprised by how quiet the pump got after changing the bellows. Hopefully this is a once every five years (or more) job.

One tip for putting it back in the boat is to have the mounting screws on the aft side screwed in the boat a little and then slide the pump assembly under them if you can. It's tricky, but I ended up doing that job multiple times. (Long story)

Thanks for that tip! Good one, I'm receiving all my parts this week, any hints are great since it's my wife who will be putting it all back in. More to come.....

If you are dealing with any unpleasant odour while working on it, I can recommend just a cheap carbon infused mask. I used one when manually cleaning my tank through the access port, It's amazing how effective it is. https://www.homedepot.ca/product/workho ... 1001104520

Thank you for that. There was just the stench from the unit basically from the residue inside.

All reassembled and ready to be reinstalled! Used Dielectric grease on new duck-bills and o-rings.
