Carver Placard

Postby SL Lakers » August 20th, 2018, 3:50 pm

Afternoon! We recently bought a 1989 3207 Aft Cabin. One of the "Carver" placards was off and I am wondering what I can use to clean the "foam" off the back of the placard and the residue off the hull and what I should use to adhere it back to the hull? I've tried Goof Off to remove the residue from the back of the placard but it isn't taking it off well.

Thanks in advance!

Try acetone, sparingly. The acetone will remove the wax too. Dampen a rag with the acetone, then start wiping.
3M makes different types of outdoor two-sided tapes.
Thanks

I just took the old names off my new to me boat. After scraping off the names, there was glue residue still on the boat. I thought acetone would do the trick. Hardly touched it. Got a scruby pad and some WD-40 and that took care of the adhesive.

3M also makes a wheel that you use on a drill to remove vinyl striping, It won't hurt the gelcoat if used correctly, but I'll bet that would work for the stuff you're talking about.
