Re: Prop Question

I'm not a big fan of changing prop size and specs just Willie Nillie. Doing so changes your achieved vs recommended WOT spec which could cause engine damage under the right conditions. Prop type, size and shape for a given application is dictated by several factors, one being engine specs. Simply reducing diameter without doing anything else to the prop reduces the amount of water they push. The reduced load will change your engine's achievable WOT beyond the manufacturer's recommended limit for safe operation of a given engine.

Reducing prop size will also affect manuverability especially at idle and likely most notable when reversing into a slip. A half inch isn't much but anything you remove will change the dynamics, how much depends on a few variables.

I'm also surprised that there is little choose for service in that neck of the woods considering the amount of boating in the area. I feel like saying you need to go to another prop shop as I've had repairs to props done that were in worse shape than you describe but that's speaking strictly sight unseen.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Before you give up on the old ones, send a picture to Steve at US Propeller - I've seen them do some pretty amazing prop repairs!

It is on land now and for 7-10 more days. I am looking for a used prop, but am always impressed by the years of experience in the responses here... this was just for me to get some additional info from outside local opinions.
I’m in Key West right now and it seems like used props would be easy to find, but this is essentially a small town so there aren’t a lot of resources. I’m also searching online. If I were closer to Tampa I’d go to that large boat part pulling place, but cost of transport there would not be worth it.

If anyone knows of a used 22-23 inch prop for the starboard side with a 23 D pitch for a 1 3/8” driveline I’m interested... text me at 619-753-1285

There is a set on south jersey craigs list boat parts for $1000 set and already reconditioned.

Have you really done much searching around?

Saw this posted on a Chris Craft site... but it's a couple years old. However it's just an example of things I run across all the time

km1125, no response from that number yet, but I'll bet they are 3 blade not 4 blade if they were on a Chris Craft site!
throwback; found 3 blade props that size but no 4 blade that exact size.
Good news I also found a set of perko flush valves for $100.00 in NJ. Lady is checking on the shipping cost for me.

So if anyone sees 22"x23"x1-3/8" 4 blade props for sale at a good price let me know.
