1987,3607 aft forward shower box

Postby RWS » April 6th, 2019, 9:50 am

I have recently purchased a 1987, 3607 Aft. The forward shower box appears to have the shower, forward sink and two other lines that I believe my be the forward and salon AC condensation lines draining into it. Is this normal? Thank you.

Sounds about right to me, there are members here with the same boat/model who I'm sure could validate this...
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

Yes very common. The shower draining into it is an obvious expectation, draining the AC into the sump is to minimize water in the bilge that would eventually stagnate and smell over time. Usually sinks drain overboard but some applications drain into sumps as well.

I have an older 3607 (83). I don't have A/C on it (yet) but the shower and fwd sink do drain into the fwd shower sump. If I did have A/C, I would imagine the condensate lines would go into there too.

RWS; you are going to want to periodically on a monthly or bi monthly check this sump for build up of foreign debris and clean it out with a shop wet & dry vac if I was you! Happy boating!

RWS, do you have an open sump box or a closed one that has a lid? If it's an open one that was used in earlier models, I recommend you replace it with a newer one. Among other things, the new ones have a lid which helps minimize odours.

Just a note regarding shower sumps as they are usually forgotten and neglected. Ad this to your winterizing list or your spring commisioning.

Open the cover and remove both the float switch and pump. Clean these properly with soap or degreaser paying special attention to the impeller that will be entangled with hair that obviously needs to be removed. Pour some simple green or degreaser into the sump box and brush it clean, now reassemble. run water from hose or turn on a tap that drains into the sump and let it run for a good 15 minutes to clean everything out. By doing this every year you will never have a sump problem or odour issue from the sump. They do need some TLC every so often. ;-)
