Salon Bulb Question

Postby denpooch » April 29th, 2020, 11:52 pm

Hi all. Would anyone know the wattage of one of those tiny two pin halogen bulbs below in the cabin? There are no markings on the bulb and a plethora of them on the market. Thanks and stay safe.

Assuming you are talking about a G4 bulb

I would be very careful on the wattage. I cannot say for sure on his fixture type but my previous boats were all 10w. There should be a sticker or you may be able to read it off the bulb assuming it was replaced in the past with the correct wattage. Using a 20w in those compact plastic fixture could result in a meltdown or even fire if it is not designed to take the heat these little buggers give off. All it takes is leaving the light on by mistake when leaving the boat for the week. Personally I would convert to LED and all issue is resolved.

Available on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/eTopLighting-Bulbs-Halogen-Light-Bi-Pin/dp/B07DNM48L8/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=g4+10w&qid=1588236220&sr=8-1

This should work well if you choose to upgrade to LED. 99% sure this is what I have. https://www.amazon.com/Yuiip-Dustproof-Replacement-Generation-Shockproof/dp/B06WRS71VZ/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=g4+led+bulb&qid=1588236939&sr=8-13

Absolutely replace those Halogens with LED's and you will probably never replace them again.
I bought a 10 pack for less than $15. Before I replaced them, I measured the temp of my Halogen's. They were around 200 degrees each. My LED's are around 120.

My Halogens were 20 watt. If you do replace with LED's I suggest a color temp no higher than 3000. The higher the number, the more blue appearance it gives. 3000 and under is more soft white

Go to Amazon and look up Kindeep. That is the brand I got.
