My Project Boat

Postby KellisEM » July 1st, 2021, 9:27 pm

Hello Everyone!

First I need to start by saying what a resource this forum has already been for me. My wife and I purchased a 1980 Carver 2687 Monterey this spring. To say the boat is a project may be an understatement. We got the boat at a great deal because the engine would not turn over when we went to inspect it. We are now about $5k in and the boat (and trailer) are about 95% complete.

We have had the boat out several times after my engine overhaul and it runs like a dream. The wife is NOW okay with the purchase.

Completed Projects:
Rebuild/Unseize Motor
New Waterpump
4 New Batteries
Battery Charger/Maintainer
New Trim Limit & Trim Sender Units - This was done without removing the stern-drive, incredibly difficult on a Gen I I learned.
Motor Oil Change
Lower Unit Oil Change
Clean/Oil All Wood
Replaced Navigation Lights
New Trailer Lights
Grease, so much grease, so many fittings

My outstanding list of projects:
Diag Fuel Sending Unit
New Canopy
Mount Aft Bilge Pump and Float switch
Install new thru-hull fitting & Fore Bilge Pump (This was an option on this model, but was not installed on ours)
New Chartplotter
