1992 28 Sliding door fix

Postby Phrancus » June 6th, 2022, 3:15 am

The sliding door of our 26/28 is literally a sliding door: aluminium on aluminium..... great because the door will never close by itself trapping a hand or fingers but pretty annoying to open and close in all other instances.

I remember seeing some pictures of the rollers at the bottom but can't seem to find them any more.

I'd like to know how to take the door apart and what to replace. Or perhaps a different solution that works instead of trying to find rollers as direct replacements.

If it was originally done with rollers, then getting it apart and cleaning or replacing them would be the right way to go.

If it is just a channel that the door slides in, you might consider putting a layer of "slick tape" on there. There are several different varieties available. Someone posted some links in a thead here somewhere (it was about sliding windows and making them easier to slide), but here is one link to give you an idea what I'm talking about. This one is UHMW but they also make PTFE and other surfaces:
