So I think the gauge of cord and length could have an effect on the operation of a compressor. I would think you need a 14 gauge cord.


The bigger problem on a boat is that too small wire size results in overheated wiring, which could lead to fire. Not good on a boat! It is always wise to use the proper size or larger wire, and protect the circuit for the device's load.
