1998 Carver 355 hydraulic steering

Postby Boathooked » June 30th, 2014, 9:41 am

Does anyone know how much fluid/what level I am supposed to fill the resevour at the helm? I opened it up this weekend to check and cannot tell what is considered full.

Are you talking about the steering pump itself, the thing the steering wheel is attached to? That would be full. All the way. Try to determine if it has the hynautic fluid or auto trans fluid in it - do not mix oils.
Thanks

waybomb...I believe I am speaking of the steering pump. There is a reservoir cap to the right of the wheel at the helm, when I open it up it looks empty.I have no way to telling what was put in there.

My '99 404 uses power steering fluid, yours may be the same. You most likely have a leak some where in the system. I found my leak at the steering cylinder. A quick trip to a local hydraulic shop and a $100 bill and it was good as new. As I recall refill took less than a quart.
