How to remove air intake

Postby ck36 » January 22nd, 2026, 11:22 am

I'm not even sure what to call this piece, but it's a painted aluminum insert through which the engine room blowers take suction. The clips visible on the side hold a vinyl pad which I've removed. I can't see any mounting hardware that attaches this to the fiberglass hull. Has anyone ever seen these removed? Desperately needs recoating and I'd like to remove them and do it if possible.

Is that step pad on the top stuck down? ...Seems to me there was a thread about this, more about the SS hawse pipe but it involved removing that section etc.
Get a mirror and look from below up to see if there are any fasteners.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Thanks, I hadn't really thought about that nonskid pad as being removable but definitely worth a check. I have a handy little boroscope so maybe I'll use that to look around in there for fasteners.

Use the "Search" function, I'm pretty sure I recall a previous thread about removing these. The trick is trying key words that were hopefully used in the thread. Maybe someone will remember the thread I'm referring to.
