Good Morning All,
So my last trip I had a low oil light go off for the Walter V-Drives. What oil do I put into the drives? Do I just pour it into the dip stick hole?
Thanks

You may want to identify what model you have http://www.waltergear.com/VD-Identify.pdf

It's my understanding that all Walter's take SAE 30 oil but it would be worth pulling the dipstick to see what's in there now (oil or ATF).

That is a low oil pressure light, not a low oil level light, btw

As soon as you start the engine(s) you should see the warning light glowing. The light will keep glowing when you shift into gear and will stay on until you reach anywhere between 800 and 1600 r.p.m. at which point the oil pump inside the V drive will create enough oil pressure to cause the light to go out. If it doesn't go out by 1600 RPM, try replacing the pressure switch with a standard oil pressure switch from any chain auto parts store (take the old one with you to make sure you get one with the right size threaded mounting stud). If that still doesn't work, it is time to have the V drive rebuilt, which costs about $250 and involves replacing the oil pump and all the seals.

That's good info admin. My Mariner is the first boat I've owned with V-Drive, so I learned something today! Thanks!

Cool! I thought I checked the oil before and it was good, but I've checked so many things I just couldn't remember. Yes it only came on when idling. The port light works but not the starboard, maybe the light bulb is burnt out. I'll check that and the oil level and yes, I will definitely try to ID the drives. Thanks for the info!
