amanphoto wrote:Source of the post I'm new to this and would like some clarification and info. I have a Walter direct mounted "V" drive. The oil has leaked out. My questions is where do I put more oil in? In the dipstick port? SAE-30 oil? Where should I look for a leak? Where are they prone to fail? Where do I change the oil out when it is time for maintenance?

Thanks for your help.

Because this happened to me.....maybe you have found the source by now , but if not...make sure your dipstick is locked in place properly, that will seal it to keep the fluid in the trans/transfer case when operating.....I know a little simple but worth a check.
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

I see now what you have. Ya SAE 30. Some guys are going with Merc HP gear oil. Look for leaking lines and fittings, input and output seal leaks.

Did they get run dry?

Do they sell rebuild kits for these?

Unless something has changed recently, they should still have kits available. Contact them http://www.waltergear.com/
