Anyone know what filter fits a 1997 350 mariner?

RickieT; The filers will be the same as the ones for a Ford V-8, Wix 51515 I do believe. Even though a lot run Rotella 15W40, I prefer to run what is on the oil fill cap and what the manual suggest which I believe in your case will be 30W or 40W. Now you can find that in the Rotella brand at most Tractor & Farm Supply stores. From what I have seen and read stay away from Fram brand filters.

Chevron Delco SAE30, as my 454's call for.
Like mentioned above Wix51515 and Sierra.

Rickie, I believe Crusader calls for straight 30 weight oil, mercury calls for 15/40 synthetic blend. GM, the manufacturer of these engines calls for full synthetic on all roller cam motors from I believe 1992 on.
I run mobil 1 15/50. Others swear by the rotella.
Change it regularly and you should be good with any quality oil.
Same with the filter. I use mercury quicksilver filters.

Had that question yesterday and was advised not to use synthetic or multi grade. At repair service shop they told me to stick to 30 weight on crusaders. Where people went synthetic, it opened up too much and a lot of junk then fouled lines and ended up causing blown engines and big buck repairs.

IMO synthetic's do not have the viscosity that plan old straight oils have. If the filler cap says 30W, then 30 W it is. The Rotella has zinc in it that helps the oil stick to all the metal parts so you don't get a dry start. IMO! Your local tractor supply and Wal-Marts carry Rotella.

For what it's worth, everyone up our way uses the Shell Rotella, 15W40 in their gas engines. That is what I used in my Carver 356 with the 454's and I use it in my Volvo Penta Diesels now. As for the oil filters, I had Merc's, so I used their filters. I buy a 5 gallon pail on sale at Walmart for around $70 +- in Canada. I am sure you can do just as well in the US.
