2005 38SS VP 8.1 transmission clunk

Starboard trans clunks into gear forward and reverse. Trans is quiet when running. Thoughts?

Welcome.....do you have trans/ V drives attached directly to the engines...??

If so I believe that is the side with the chain drive.
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

Welcome aboard. Exact model of engine and transmission would help. I assume "VP" refers to Volvo Penta. Can you provide serial numbers?

What rpm is the engine running at at idle before putting her in gear? Have you checked the fluid level and condition of the fluid?
