Thanks , I am not getting my double beep on ignition on mode. I checked the ignition switch and all is fine.

From your explanation, it sounds like the ECU is shutting the engine down for some reason, maybe some loss of reference as has been mentioned......unfortunately it seems more like you will have to get someone to hook up and scan , at least to see if there are codes present. On your restart, did you try to start with the throttle advanced a little? The code scanners are a good investment for us IMO.

One more...before you pay someone , have a real good look around at all your connections, grounds etc and don't forget the back of the ignition switch, I think that has been mentioned but still deserves repeating....good luck man.
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

I don't know the VP engines, but curious as to the "if you have two beeps, it is OK to start" comment.

What do the "two beeps" mean? There must be some checklist that the ECU does before it does the "two beeps" if you normally get those beeps before you start.

I believe that up to 2004 VP used gm delphi mefi....probably mefi 4, at least that is what is on the rinda system type screen.......the two beeps on key on are a check and fuel pump on etc.....my 01 merc with mefi3 has the same sequence.

Ok, Sometimes the 2 beeps was there and sometimes not. Either engine. So after about 2 hours of checking all connectors and fuses, I decided to try the engine. turn the key, no beeps but started right away. All good, ran like new, throttled up to 2000 rpm, brought directly down to idle, stalled. But without hearing the beeps, I can start it again no problem. So the beeps are not important for the engine to start. I probably have something to do with fuel pressure getting to speed. I removed the throttle body, removed the IAC, I thought I would find alot of carbon, but no. just dirty. cleaned it, but now I am going to order an new IAC for it. It only makes sense in my eyes. Hard deceleration , the IAC cannot act fast enough to keep up.

One other thing I observed here from your story , is the problem started after the engines had a good heat soak.....lots of times sensors of various types are fine when they are cold then act up after a good heat soak....hopefully it is just the IAC as you mentioned.

Even when the engine is cold or hot. When I called a Volvo dealer, He said even to him it sounds like the IAC not working properly.

Both you and I and half the marina know about those friggen IAC valves right? ;-) Always carried 2 spares on board when I had mercs. Found out the Ford Windstar version actually are the most reliable as they never did fail. Not sure what style the Volvos take though. Sounds like you are right on track.

Hi Hans. Could the Ford version be the same as the GM version? I'm ordering a IAC valve today as well as the plugs. The direct number from VP is 3843751. When you search this number, you get an IAC from GM that was used in so many types of trucks. Also number 11713209. If the Ford is more reliable, I'll order that one today. Your thoughts? Looked at the Ford version, Doesn't look the same .

Unfortunately the number for the merc one was 862998 which is the same as the Ford (AC423) for a fraction of the cost and 100% reliable. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fuel-Injection ... 3304!US!-1

That being said I do not know which one would work on the Volvo application however if numbers are the same then the chances are pretty darn good.
