Gas fume detector

Postby Mindy » July 16th, 2018, 10:04 pm

Hi Everyone! We bought a 1986 Carver 4207 in May. We had a faulty Gas Fume detector & gauge. My husband has ordered another one to replace it. He can’t seem to find where in the bilge the detector is located currently. Any ideas?

Congrats and welcome aboard Mindy. They're typically mounted on a bulkhead or the side of one of the stringers. If it's the original vintage, the sensor will likely look much different than the new one. If I recall, Fred (waybomb) had a 4207, maybe he'll chime in with sensor location and description of what you're looking for.

The 4207 I had did not have one so I installed one. The sensor was not very big. My hull in the engine room was white. If your is white, look at anything not white with wires coming out of it. The sensor for my gauge was black, maybe two inches long, one inch wide, and one inch tall, iirc.

I mounted it above the high water level alarm I also installed. Both in the engine room, below the battery tray, on the side of one of the stringers.
Thanks
Fred
