Primary Fuel Filter 1997 454 Xli

Postby Wayne162 » June 21st, 2019, 1:05 pm

Has anyone replaced the screen and gasket on a primary fuel filter on a 454 Xli? Its the one that looks like a flying saucer. I am going to replace my fuel filters and wanted to get a spare set of primary gaskets just n case they need replacement during inspection. Only part number I could find that looks remotely the same is CRU-RA077013, and the screen appears to have the rubber gasket pre-molded to the screen. Also looking for a supplier with a reasonable cost. On-line prices range from $110- $200 for one screen! Thanks

The filter should be an Oberg fuel filter, if it looks like the one in the link. I believe they come in 4" and 6" discs, measure yours before ordering. Should be able to find them for $20-$30.

You'll want the 4" 28 micron filter screen

Now I will say I don't have one of these....but if that is just a metal screen, why can't it just be be cleaned ?
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

You can clean them and reuse as long as the seal is still in good shape and no breaks in the screen.

It can be cleaned but if you want to quickly swap them it's nice to have another you can swap in and clean the dirty one when convenient. You'd be pretty surprised how little bit of junk can clog these where you are stuck dead in the water.

Thanks all. G36 shared exactly what I need. $40 is a deal from what I have seen available. Want to change them out before I hit the ICW. Moving the boat to Myrtle Beach soon.
