Source maintenance parts for 5.7L online

Postby Dad Joke » April 8th, 2021, 7:19 pm

I just bought a 1984 Carver 3207 and I have a couple of questions.

1. What's a good online source for external engine consumables?
Distributor caps
Points, condensers, rotor buttons (I'll be upgrading to electronic at some point)
Plugs
Plug wires
Thermostats
Gaskets
Hoses
Filters
Belts

2. From the above list, which part need to be marine grade?

Thanks.

This is one source I use. Website is intuitive. If you have original part number or engine ID number, they provide info on surviving after market parts for obsolete parts. http://www.marineengine.com/parts/parts.html I always suggest using a local marine store if possible. Seek out a staff person that has a boat, and use his/her experience.

All parts should be marine grade. Don't have to be OEM, but recommended. 8-) er

I also have bought parts from marineengine.com. I also have had good luck from this place,....https://bpi.ebasicpower.com/shop/. I usually find the part number I need and start googling to find best prices . I would also shop local if I could but we don't have a local place where I live that doesn't charge a arm and a leg .

I guess there is only one drawback for me with some types of parts, you can't touch and inspect the parts first to see what you are getting when it is an on line purchase, especially these days where there are so many knock-offs.
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

Yea, that is the challenge with online. You may get something unexpected, or used, or not made well. 8-) er
