2005 41 CMY Volvo Gi

Postby vickyb » April 13th, 2021, 12:55 pm

Hello All,

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations on ideal plane RPM. What could be an expected speed at that RPM

Thanks

I’m only guessing...that’s a lot of weight to be pushed by gassers...15 knots at 3300 rpm’s. WOT speed, 23-25 knots. I’m sure someone more qualified will chime in on this.

Want to cut your fuel bill in half...cruise at hull speed, around 7-7.5 knots. Your wallet will thank you.

Thank you. I was told that cruising at engines optimum RPM offers the best speed:fuel ratio. Interesting to note the hull speed and agree that lower RPM easier on wallet

Some years ago, I had a 3807, almost as heavy as yours with twin Merc 454's. Almost always traveled at hull speed. Getting up on plane cut my miles per gallon in half, from about 1 mpg to 1/2 mpg. Carborated engines...you should do better with fuel injected.

Whatever you do, do not travel at speeds between hull speed and full plane. All you will be doing is wasting a lot of fuel and kicking up a big wake which won't make you any friends. MPG's are worse at 12-13 knots than at 16-18
