Carb 1 is complete. Definitely some varnish in the bottom but I've seen worse. I am not sure this will fix any problems. I did put some JB Weld around the plugs, I didn't check if they leaked. It'd be nice if that was the problem. We'll see.
Thanks,
Steve

Good Morning All,
So I rebuilt both carbs. I replaced the points. I set the idle, to specs that now I can not even feel when I put it in gear. I then set the timing. Still can't figure the steam problem out but...

I blew another freeze plug out. This is the third one. I am thinking, what the heck is the problem? So I pull the muffler off, looked good. I then pulled the riser off of the exhaust manifolds...uh oh.

I found the passage ways were plugged with rust. The logs were plugged where they meet the risers. I cleaned that out and the steam is much better but still pretty thick. I no longer smell fumes.

I did find 1 riser had a drilled hole into the air passage. What in the world? Yes, it was dumping exhaust fumes into the hold, not cool. I'll plug it soon and then continue on my search for the problem.

Any other ideas out there?

Thanks,

Steve

Loss of power, dumping frost plugs and mysterious drilled holes?

My bet - cracked block. Could virtually be invisible when cold and visible at temp. I saw this once before, and the repair was a hole drilled in front of the crack to stop the cracks progress, and then repaired with JB.

Well you guys aren't very positive :). The CO is just mind boggling. I installed a CO detector this year and guess what...it was going off a few times. We just ran with the windows open and all was good...or was it. That will definitely be fixed before we use it again.

The smoke out the back is now just pure steam. It is not as bad, just not sure what else to look for. I suspect with all that rust that maybe I have some holes in the exhaust manifold, though there were no signs at all that this was the case. Uggg....what to do.
Thanks,
Steve
