Coolant Tank exterior corrosion Cummins 5.9

Postby Tomion » September 24th, 2015, 10:55 pm

Hello, i have 2001 Cummins 5.9 Deisel. The coolant tanks have corrosion on the bottom of the sides. I cannot determine the exstent of the corrosion on the undeside without remiving the tank. My insticts tell me the corrosion is being caused by disimmiliar metals touching on the bootom where the tank mounts.

Does anyone else have this corrosion and or removed their coolant tanks to repaint? Did the corrosion cover the bottom of tank?

When you say Coolant Tank, do you mean the overflow tank (usually plastic), the aftercoolers, or the heat exchanger tubes?

Corrosion is usually due to saltwater and/or excessive moisture in the bilge. Do you have any pics?
