Best way to measure out oil change

Postby VolNavy91 » May 16th, 2018, 2:50 pm

New to diesel maintenance so advise would be appreciated. When buying oil in bulk by the gallon or 5 gallon bucket, whats the best way to measure out if you don't need the entire container- in my case the engine capacity is 15 quarts - less than 5 gallons and 3 quarts more than 4. How do you measure out that last fractional amount?

Buy a couple of quarts of oil. Use them in your next change and then retain them as your 'smaller amount' measures. Fill from 5 gal supply as needed.
