Dont think I have introduced myself yet

Postby tfti » September 11th, 2013, 11:21 am

New guy from Chicago with a 4207. Bought my boat a few years ago while in the midst of the divorce from hell. It was structurally sound and mechanically perfect, just needed some serious cleaning and all new soft goods. I love my projects and this kept me occupied. It has been such a great boat to own during the summer that last year I did what most people dream of doing and kept it in the water during winter and basically lived aboard. Best condo in downtown Chicago.
Any other 4207 owners here?

Welcome!

I had a 4207. It had gas engines, and would not consider it safe to use in significant weather. I have been out on the lake with beam seas and following seas and the boat was not fun to handle. A couple of hours of that wore me out.

Ended up selling it and buying a go-fast (still have when I feel the need for unfettered speed), and then recently a project 3697 which has essentially been completed. It's ugly on the outside, but the inside, the bridge, and the cockpit are the bomb for entertaining.

Looking to spend some time on the 3697 as we search for a 42 aft/440 aft equipped with 450+ hp Cats, preferably 500 Cats. Preferably a pre-1990 with the dinette/galley down. I drove one in horrible weather on the lake and loved it, compared to the 4207 with Gas engines.

Then the 3697 goes on sale.
Thanks
Fred

I see you are in St Joe. I ripped the fountain to Saug Friday night and Saturday went to St Joe and stayed at West Basin. My 4207 is powered by Peninsular Diesels. Its currently on ebay as I have dreams of a 53 Ocean or 60 Chris.

TFTI?

Too bad no aft enclosure. Need that enclosure!

A bit off-topic here, looked up your shop - if you ever need any custom fab work on any exotics, my kid is down in North Palm and does custom work for the likes of Rossian and Orbit. Done work for Miss Geico Racing too. Mostly custom exhaust work, and has jigs for many exotics. But he can fab, weld, machine, whatever and anything having to do with metal. He can also do CF work, and if too complex, one of his buddies is the best in the business and does work for DoD and companies working with DoD. www.at-exotics.com.
Thanks

I actually like it without the aft enclosure. The salon is roomy enough to entertain when the weather gets iffy. The open aft is great for entertaining and getting maximum sun. Most of my guests tend to hang out in back while cruising or at anchor. Since we do upholstery and canvas in house I may make a retractable sunshade for the aft if I keep her. Interesting biz your son got into. A good fabricator is hard to find. We do a lot of carbon work in house.
As a side note, your cougar must boogie!
