1977 Carver Mariner 33'

Good Morning All,
So briefly...this boat sat since 2008. It was winterized and shrink wrapped by the marina so that is a plus. I prepped the boat for transport across WI on Monday however they got hit with another 4"-9" of snow. Uggg...
So I have new batteries in it but did try to turn it over yet. I examined the hull, looks ok but I think I will pull the screws out of the port trim tab, goop them with 3m 5200 and screw it back in b4 launch on Sat. Should be interesting. I will have my deck boat there in case it won't start and will purchase a additional bilge pump just in case.
I obviously have a lot to work on but my 1st question...
How do you get the shine back on this thing? Can you do that while it sits in the marina or will my new boat neighbors frown on this kind of thing? Should I drive it out in the lake to do it? Just curious, I never really had a slip b4 and I am not sure of the unspoken rules.

Congrats on your new boat!

Working on your boat in the slip is fine, just be mindful of other peoples pride and joy next to you, as well as the peace and quite they may want. Waxing etc should be no problem, sanding teak, fiberglass, etc. can be a problem... you don't want to cover your neighbors boat in teak dust

I suggest offering them a cold beverage or two. When you get to know them you con them into helping.

Before you put the boat in the water is a great time to buff and wax the hull. Its a lot easier to work on the lower sections standing up rather than laying down on a dock. That's also a good time to check/replace your anodes (zincs).

We did some mass work over the weekend. We figured out how to get the radar to work, we got the fancy trip odometer computer working from 77', we have the trim tabs working, we have one side of the windows pretty sealed up, we installed a new battery charger for the system, and we installed led's all over the bridge. I'll get pics of that, though I have not seen them at night yet.

We went to get gas for the boat and engine #2 does not have enough gas to start. Engine #1 started spitting mass water out of the block. Looking closer I think the freeze plug rotted out, hard to see. We were very bummed...so close to actually moving the boat and no dice

We will take a new rubber plug and 5 gals of gas on our next run.

New cover for the factory installed transducer box in the mid hull hatch, below deck. I had the make the top larger to fit my transducer, only to do it again since I broke the locator that was using the transducer.
