1997 405 Motor Yacht Dinghy Storage

Postby Northstar850 » December 28th, 2018, 7:35 pm

Hi All!

Happy Holidays!

We took delivery of our 1997 405 Motoryacht in late August, and have not had a lot of in the water time so far (other than the 5 day trip from Virginia to New Jersey). We travel with 2 dogs and carried a 9 foot RIB, affectionately called the Pee Pee Tender, on our former boat with davits screwed in to the swim platform. On our new boat there are 2 75 gallon fuel tanks in the swim platform, I am nervous about screwing davits in to the swim platform. I am also thinking of a winch to raise it on to the hard cockpit roof as we only use it on the hook.

Does anyone have any advice on how to transport our RIB? Pictures would also be appreciated!!

Thanks, Geoff

Love the name you gave your tender!!! Have you ever thought of just towing your tender while under way? I also don't like to drill holes in our vessels either. Just asking.

I have a 405 there is a pretty big gap between the top of tanks and the swim platform and the tanks are more inboard than part of the swim platform . there will be no problem for backing plates etc. . You can visualize this for yourself if you'll remove the back cushion of the little seat and access panel by the master berth stbd side by the drawers . There's also an access panel behind the headboard of the bed.. I'll be happy to help answer anything about this boat that I can congrats on your 405.

We have not tried towing it on this boat yet. We stay at a lot of marinas, backing in to a slip would present a problem with the rib in tow. Another option to that would be deflating it and putting it on top of the swim platform “dock box”.Thanks! Geoff

G36,

Thank you! I did look under there briefly, I see what you mean. That will probably work. I’ll have to see whether davits or just cleats will work, we only carry the “Pee Pee Tender” for the dogs when we are going to stay on the hook. I’ll let you know which way I go with it. Out of curiosity, what speed do you cruise at and what is your top speed and at what RPMs? Thanks! Geoff

We are gas powered and do alot of travel around 10 or less mph around 2200 rpm.seems like our last trip in October we were running about 3200 and about 16 mph. Max is 4400 rpm about 25mph I believe I really only run her up once or twice a year to just verify its still about the same every year. Do you have gas crusader or mercury engines or diesel? Still I do love having a large engine room to get to everythig
