Switching active stations.

Postby David M. » January 4th, 2019, 2:48 pm

I have Volvo Penta shifters on my Carver and have yet to discover if there is a way to switch from one helm to another without shutting down the engines. Anyone familiar with these controls that can explain the process.

Hi David, I'm waiting to see if someone chimes in on your question. I'd like to know myself. I never use the bridge helm so I've never learned. I thought you had to come to a stop and idle in neutral to change active stations? Do your motors shut down or just come down to an idle? Dave.

Dave, after more research I figured out how to change active stations. Place the active station in neutral and hold the active station button for 3+ seconds. This disables that station. Turn the keys to the on position on the other station and press the active station button. This allow you to transfer stations without shutting down the engines.

John
I'm a fairly new Carver owner and do not know the answers to these questions. My boat will top out at 2400 rpm, when on plane, I tend to cruise at about 2150-2200 which gets me about 19-20 mph, depending on wind etc. 1050-1100 rpm tends to get 9-10 mph. I would also like to know my optimum, fuel economy, speeds, I have the same 480 hp engines.

Hi david
I burn very close to 18 GPH per engine at 2200 rpm
Do u know your prop size ??
Also david very important.
Your top rpm otherwise know as WOT
(Wide open throtle) for those engines should
Be 2600. If u max out at 2400 u can do
Some damage to the engines. Please ask your mechanic
Or anybody. The engines will not last.
Hope this helps
Thanks
John
