Hi Folks. Just joined the club and looking forward to sharing Carver experiences. My wife and I have a 1990 38' aft cabin with twin 300HP Cummins diesels that we have had for over 10 years. This is our second Carver, the first being a 32' aft cabin. We boated for 10 years on the Chesapeake, one of our favorite places. We brought the 38' down from the Chesapeake to our home in Punta Gorda, Florida where we keep the boat at our dock behind our house. We have taken the Carver to the Exumas and bopped around the islands for about six months, take frequent trips to Key West, Sanibel and Captiva islands.
Our boat, Finisterra, has approx. 1600 hours and is in great shape. We keep it waxed every six months and just had the bottom stripped, barrier coated and painted. I recently purchase a Sailrite sewing machine and my wife and I just replaced all of the eisenglass which is looking good.
Looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Hello all! My wife and I own a 1988 42 ACMY that we live aboard in Chicago. We've only had this boat for a couple months but so far love it. It's a great live aboard vessel. I'll be poking around for some help with a few things but wanted to introduce myself here.

Welcome aboard. We had an 89 4207 and I think I know every inch of it. So I am pretty sure I can help you if needed. The boat made a great weekend condo for us.
Thanks

Hi all. my wife and I are new owners of a 87 carver 28. Docked in San Francisco Bay. A question for all you salty ones. I would like to practice transmission and throttle responses. the marina I am at is very crowded. I don't feel comfortable "practicing' there, any ideas or tips?

Is this an inboard model?
Don't be afraid. Get rudders straight. Idle speed. Never touch the throttles. Just forward neutral and reverse. Take you time. Do not touch the throttles or the steering wheel. You will be fine.
I bet if you asked one of your neighbors they would be glad to help.
Have you taken any power squadron courses. Highly recommended to take more than basics.
Thanks

Try and find a stationary object away from the dock... a channel marker, speed limit bouy, etc and practice near that just as waybomb described. Worked well for me when I started out. I also practiced under a bridge by going in reverse in an S shaped pattern down the length of the bride.

As you get more comfortable with how the boat reacts you can start adding some throttle to get the boat to react faster. It will come in handy on windy days!

You just did!
Welcome.
Just go to the relevant section, and click on "post a new topic", give it a proper title, and type away!
Don;t forget to tell us about your boat and where you boat.
Thanks
